Here and Now-Present moment
”Everything in life is constantly evolving and nothing remains static”
Heraclitus (Greek Philosopher)
Life is a journey filled with constant changes, and its ups and downs. These fluctuations can teach us valuable lessons. Instead of allowing ourselves to dwell on the past or worry excessively about the future, it is important for us to focus on the present moment.
The foundation of living in the present moment lies in the concept of grounding ourselves. Grounding ourselves can be achieved through various techniques. Mindfulness meditation encourages us to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgement. We are not our thoughts or emotions, however it is important to acknowledge and embrace them as they are and bring compassion to them. Once we lean into them, we can then release and let them go.
Tuning into ourselves inwardly is an integral part of embracing the present. Self-awareness fosters a deeper understanding of our emotions and responses to different situations. By understanding them, we can manage them better and respond to challenges with resilience.
Being present allows us to appreciate the small moments in life that bring joy. By practicing gratitude for these everyday occurrences, we foster a more positive outlook on life.
Embracing the present moment is a vital skill in navigating the ups and downs of life. Grounding ourselves, tuning inwardly, and appreciating the current moment not only enhance our well-being but also empower us to confront life’s challenges. As we come home to ourselves, we create a fulfilling and meaningful existence, one moment at a time.
“I have arrived. I am home.
In the here, in the now.
I am solid, I am free.
In the ultimate I dwell.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
Here is an exercise to help us ground:
1)You can begin in a comfortable seated position on a chair or maybe standing (feet hip width apart.)
2)Bring your attention to your feet in contact with the surface beneath you.
3)Feel and notice the support beneath you.
4)Take a deep in-breath and say to yourself,
“I am grounded,
Exhale -I have arrived.
Inhale-I am home
Exhale-in the here and in the now.”
Repeat a few times through
Notice how you feel.
May you be grounded and embrace the present moment as it is.
